THE MYSTERY THAT WILL FOREVER GO UNSOLVED

For some reason every single pair of jeans I purchase for my boys end up looking like this within months of being purchased.

Nothing of the sort happens to either Ava or Liv's pants. Ever. Just the boys. And I know I am not alone as every other Mom that has had the pleasure of having one or more sons empathizes with me and knows. They are all the same. They can't seem to keep a pair of jeans hole free for more than a few months; and none of us Moms can figure out why.

Each time Lucas or Anthony has left the house in the morning for school all neat and tidy and ended up coming home in the afternoon with a huge hole in the knee of their pants I question them.

"What happened?"

"What do you mean Mom?" Followed by a blank stare, such as this:

"Why do you have a huge hole in your pants?"

"Oh, that? I don't know, it just happened."

"How? Did you fall on the playground? Skid across the gym floor on your knees? Take a pair of scissors to them?"

"No, I don't know how it happened, it just started out as a really little hole this morning and then got really big by the end of the day."

This is usually how the conversation goes every time. And every time this is when I shake my head in frustration, sigh and walk away thinking of how many hundreds of dollars I have managed to spend on jeans and how many more hundreds I will spend before they are able to purchase their own.

Boys; you've gotta love 'em.

MOUSTACHE

Lucas sporting his first ever "Moustache"..... Well, at least that is what he was calling it.

I will forever wonder what brought on my children's obsession with personal care products for women. 'Cause this is not the first time Lucas (and the other stinkers for that matter) have gotten into such things.

One time I caught the boys playing "shooter guns" with my tampons, another time they were using them as earplugs. And the mini-pads? They have managed to find many uses for those. As I mentioned above, Lucas has used one as a make-shift moustache [which technically would be a beard if you look at the placement, but close enough, right?] I have also found the kids sticking sticking them all over their bodies, claiming they were covering themselves in protective armor, and they also found them quite useful as eyepatches when playing pirates.

Their imaginations seem to be endless when it comes to playing with mini-pads and tampons.

Funny thing is, Ava never is a part of all this. Just the boys - little partners in crime.

BITTERSWEET

This morning I got the boys up, dressed, made their lunches in their new matching Star Wars lunch boxes, and brought them to their first day of the summer fun program at Sunny Hill.

Lucas was thrilled to be able to go to school over the summer with Anthony. Thrilled to show him the ropes. Where the bathroom is, where they eat lunch, where the playground is, and most importantly, he wanted to introduce his little brother to his pre-school buddies. Lucas was feeling very important and needed today as big brother, and it was so great to see.

For Anthony, this was an exciting day, full of new friends, and new experiences. It was his very first day of school, and for me, it was bittersweet. So happy to see him growing up, and becoming an independent little boy, but so sad to see him not needing me as much.

So very bittersweet.

QUITE THE FIND

I went upstairs this morning to take my shower, leaving the boys on their respective couches watching cartoons.

When I came down the stairs after said shower, something caught my eye. Something bright green and small, and wormish in nature.

This is what I found nary a little boy in sight, slowly inching it's way across my rug in the foyer.

I assumed the boys were outside running around somewhere, already on to another adventure, having forgotten the little pet they had found mere minutes before that was crawling around inside the house.

I yelled out the front door for the boys to come hither, and they both arrived promptly on the front door step looking like this. Still in pajamas, having not listened to me when I told them to put their clothes on, [notice said clothes in bottom right hand corner of picture below] Lucas with his top off, running around the neighborhood. Nice.

I asked them where they had found this little creature that was suddenly inhabiting my rug. They both gave me a quizzical look, kinda like, what-could-you-possibly-be-talking-about-Mom look. I simply pointed down in the direction of the little creature and got an

"Ooooohhhhhh, that! We found it outside."

After this reminder, they got their little selves down on the floor and played with their new pet for awhile. Observing how it crawled, felt, and moved around.

As they were playing with their new friend, we came to the conclusion that we should keep him in one of their little bug homes [located outside] for a while to watch him and play with him, then it would be best to let him go home, back to his Mom and Dad as they would surely be missing him.

Finally, we had a chat about how it is not wise to bring critters, creatures, bugs, animals - anything of this nature - into our home without consulting Mom first. Ever.

They happily agreed, and took their new friend outside, where he is most happy, and more importantly, where he belongs.

POST EDIT:

After finishing this post, I went to see what the boys were up to, and found this.

Apparently they felt the need to prepare for inclement weather (even though it is sunny without a cloud in sight), and dig out their rain gear. **Notice the little bug home on the left hand side behind them with their forgotten friend inside.**

These boys seem raring to go, may be a long one. Day that is.
