PLAY DATE IN THE RAIN

Ava had some of her best friends from Lily Lake over this afternoon to play; and let me say this day has been much anticipated around here.

With good reason, of course.

We had planned out the whole day ahead of time: a little swimming in the pool, a little running through the sprinkler, some sunbathing on towels in the grass, followed by a little exercise in the form of jumping their little legs off on the trampoline. After all of that, we were going to finish off with an ice cream treat courtesy of the ever loved ice cream man who rolls through our neighborhood, music playing each Wednesday afternoon. It was quite a perfect day Miss Ava and I had planned.

So when we woke up to gray skies and the threat of storms coming our way, Ava was quite upset. And I have to admit, I was too. After sulking a bit over the state of the weather, we decided it was time to pick ourselves up by our bootstraps and come up with a new plan.

Turns out our plan that replaced our fun filled day in the sun - which was made up of nothing as we had no plan at all - was a simply perfect one.

The girls arrived and immediately ran to the playroom with American Girl Dolls in hand and played house for a while. That did not last long as right when they realized it was pouring - literally pouring rain out they ran outside to play. This all happened before I had the chance to tell them to not get themselves soaking wet. As I followed them out the door, they were already in the driveway jumping around, giggling, and soaked to the bone. Too late I guess.

And heck, what was the big deal anyway? Some of my fondest memories from being their age were when my friends and I would run out in the rain, get soaked, giggle like crazy and play until it all finally stopped. It turns out they had the same sort of fun I did.

After the rain stopped, they all gathered in the garage and enjoyed some extra large freezes before drying off and getting in to some new clothes.

It was then decided that it was movie time. They all snuggled up on bean bags, watched a movie and snacked on some popcorn. When they had enough of that they made their way up to Ava's room. The boys had been following them around here and there all day and they had decided they had enough of them and were in need of some girl time. And there they stayed until their Momma's came to pick them up.

So I guess you could say there was a lesson learned here -no matter rain or shine a good time can be had by 7 year old's.

Just seeing those pictures make me want to go play in the rain (if we ever got any here in the desert!) So fun! Just proves that usually the best days are the unplanned ones!
